Twin Flames is a unique romance read. Ms. Shaw has created an unquestionably Sci-Fi world, but within it are the shifter/were-type pack dynamics that would be familiar to any PNR fan. While my actual rating is three and a half stars, this review has been rounded up to four stars on Goodreads and Amazon since neither offers half-star options.

Our heroine, Bliss, is an Eli. She possesses preternatural strength, the ability to shift to the form of her Eli beast, and liquid silver runs through her veins–displaying every heightened emotion despite her best efforts to conceal them. Along with the Crea, Eli are one of the two sub-species living uneasily among humans on an alternate history future earth. Subs typically live with others of their kind on Clan land, but many years ago Bliss chose to leave the Clan and live on her own. Away from Clan rules and the dominant leader of the Eli whom she loved and left as a young adult.

Kaid is our hero and the uber-alpha leader of the Eli. Bliss wants to distance herself from her former love instead of working with him to solve a murder, and I can understand why. Kaid is a self-proclaimed womanizer and is unnecessarily crass to Bliss. Though he provides an explanation for his actions later on, it wasn’t enough to move me to Team Kaid. Throughout the book, even after he and Bliss are together, he comes off as somewhat misogynistic. Early on he describes Bliss as having “a body belonging in porn magazines” and toward the end he refers to a woman who came on to him with a low-cut blouse as a “whore”. Admittedly, I don’t go for the most alpha-y of heroes anyway, and this is just my personal opinion.

The copy I received for review was an ARC, so hopefully the copy editing errors I noticed will be corrected for future editions. I gave this around a four star rating because despite my negative opinion of the hero, it was a well-woven story and I’ve never read a Science Fiction Romance which managed to blend the pack elements of Paranormal Romance to create something brand new.

Button - AmazonI’m not sure how I felt about this book. In the beginning, I was confused, so very confused. It’s one of the few times where I wished for an infodump just to fill me in. We have the Nightlands which is in perpetual darkness and Daylands which has perpetual day. Clementine is a flower girl, she sells flowers which glow and somehow she uses magic to enhance that glow. Oh and she is able to change into a dove. It took me over three chapters to figure this all out.

As the story continues, you find out about why there is a split between the two lands, except it wasn’t as clear as I would’ve liked. A lot of it was me threading pieces together, hoping I had the right answer. I’m still confused about the star in the sky and why it blinked for their meal breaks.

Knight is a wolf, kind of like a werewolf, kind of not. He could change into a wolf and was the alpha of the clan. Information about the clan trickled through and I got a slightly better understanding about them by the end of the book. I did enjoy the battle near the end, and one part had me holding my breath, waiting for the outcome.

Overall, I do want to read the next book. It didn’t end on a cliffhanger, although there was enough of a hook to entice me to continue. Perhaps next time I’ll be less confused! 😉

I haven’t read a good erotica novel, dark or otherwise in a while and had been finding something that would really get me hooked–indeed, I was hooked with this one. If I have to be honest, I don’t really bother with this author’s books because I have a major dislike for serials no matter the contents. It’s a weird quirk of mine, sue me. So I’m really happy about this edition.

Firstly, this book is 600 pages long.

600 pages of jumping between the heads of Fiona and Elliot, and also some Deacon.

When I reached the last page? I was a wreck as much as Fiona was (or the three combined together).

In the end, I’m torn between liking it and not, to be honest. Fiona is everything I don’t like in a heroine. It’s just that C.D. Reiss executed this heroine so well. The plot was crazy too, kept me on my toes the entire time. I hated being stuck in Fiona’s head, but at the same time I wanted to dig deeper.

It took me a while to wrap my head around Forbidden overall. It was one wild ride, I’ll give you that.

“I don’t want to be saved,” I said. “Not anymore.”

About this author

CD Reiss is a USA Today and Amazon bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn’t pick up, she’s at the well, hauling buckets.

Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master’s degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere, but it did embed TV story structure in her head well enough for her to take a big risk on a TV series structured erotic series called Songs of Submission. It’s about a kinky billionaire hung up on his ex-wife, an ingenue singer with a wisecracking mouth; art, music and sin in the city of Los Angeles.

Critics have dubbed the books “poetic,” “literary,” and “hauntingly atmospheric,” which is flattering enough for her to put it in a bio, but embarrassing enough for her not to tell her husband, or he might think she’s some sort of braggart who’s too good to give the toilets a once-over every couple of weeks or chop a cord of wood.

If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

Synopsis:

27996350Feisty twenty-four year old Holly, or Miss Greedy as her friends call her, receives a wooden cube as a gift from an enigmatic elderly lady who happens to be her mother’s new neighbour in Lossiemouth, a small Scottish fishing town.

What she doesn’t expect, is for the cube to contain Blayne, a Spirit of Saoradh only she can see and touch. Blayne is a playful, headstrong ghost with no recollection of his human past and an ability to grant Holly’s wishes whenever she calls for him — as long as said wishes don’t raise any questions from the public that is. So a shiny new car might be out of the question, but the possibility of a flat stomach, a consistently spotless house or a perfect daily hairstyle more than make up for it.

Through their incessant banter, Holly and Blayne grow closer while fighting against their mutual attraction since they have no possible future together.

But when the painful reality of Blayne’s existence is revealed, Holly will realize that it’s not always the girl who needs to be saved.

Forever Hers is a delightful paranormal romance about a woman whose life was forever changed when she was gifted with a wooden cube by an old lady who was her mother’s new neighbor. It was no ordinary wooden cube as it contained a Spirit of Saoradh who goes by the name of Blayne and he has the ability to grant any of Holly’s wishes, that was, within reason.

While Holly and Blayne didn’t get along at first, their fights turned into banters and their attraction for each other grew stronger and they couldn’t fight it even if they knew any future together was impossible.

First of all, I thought the blurb was definitely eye-catching. It was an interesting concept. I haven’t come across genie-type Heroes in PNR, or I haven’t read my good share of PNR yet. Either way, I was intrigued.

The story overall was great. I thought it was very well-written and I really enjoyed banters between Holly and Blayne. Definitely, I was entertained. It was an easy read and I highly recommend this to readers of PNR who prefer the “softer” side of it. To me it definitely gave off the NA vibe. Could be just me too.

I couldn’t really decide if I like Holly or not. She comes off as a bit immature to me, a bit selfish at first, and not so put together. But by the time I reached the end of the book, I decided that she wasn’t so bad after all. Blayne on the other hand… Come to think of it, I feel exactly the same about Blayne. I think they’ll grow on you as the novel progresses.

Yet, I felt that the ending was perfect too. 🙂

My only reservation about this book is merely the layout of it. The POVs of the H/h gets mixed up in paragraphs and confuses me for a second.

But overall, it was good and I liked it.

I’ll preface this by saying this was not my kind of book. It’s well written and I can see why others would love it, but I was expecting more from a PNR. It’s very sweet, although tooth decay inducing. They met, they fell in love, he stripped her while she was unconscious, but it was okay because she thought it was sweet. All this happened before 20% into the book.

I kept waiting for something to happen. Even when the “evil” ex-girlfriend showed up, I expected fireworks, anger, anything. Instead it was very anti-climatic for me. I guess my tastes run to the more external conflict than what this book gave me.

Those who enjoy the more sweeter stories will love this one. It’s more of an emotional read that feels like a New Adult book that just happened to have paranormal creatures in it.

A blazing hot second chances historical romance short story. Amelia and Stephen’s marriage lasted less than 24 hours. After finding out the real reason why Stephen had married her, Amelia ran away from him.

It may be a (very) short story, but it clearly has depth and it was hot too! Jess Michaels’s writing style is exemplary and I was left wanting to more about Amelia and Stephen.

That is, until a chance meeting with a handsome stranger made her question her life’s entire course.

Billionaire David Keith was sexy, successful, and on the wish list of every woman in San Francisco.

I have to be honest, I was almost quick to dismiss this book. I’ve read a number of books with the same story line before, handsome billionaire meets beautiful young woman, yadda yadda, but I was still curious to see how this story will turn out. Before jumping into this series, I first read The Lessons which I had thoroughly enjoyed so I proceeded to read Determined.

Samantha Sharp was a beautiful woman, down to earth and hardworking. It was no surprise that she caught a certain devastatingly handsome man’s eye. His name was David Keith and he has no qualms being aggressive in pursuing her. He was not in her plans, but her attraction to him was impossible to dismiss or ignore and when they meet again the next night, she surrendered herself to him.

And so it began.

My first impression of Samantha was that she was nothing overtly special, except for her looks. I couldn’t find anything particular about why David would be so attracted to her. But as I continued to read on, I was wrong. We get to know more about her throughout the book as her and David’s relationship progressed.

But overall, while the book was a pleasant read, there was nothing in it that had evoked emotions from me. Not enough twists and turns but it did hold my interest.

His sister told me I was special. Jenna had been abnormally interested in our relationship since the get-go. And for good reason. Despite being unbelievably hot, rich, and powerful, her billionaire brother had always managed to avoid dating anyone seriously. I was quite the novelty in the Keith household.

My best friend told me I was lucky. But I had to remind myself this wasn’t luck. David Keith had pursued me like an animal hunting it’s meal. Manipulating events, practically stalking me at parties— but honestly I was just as obsessed.

We were addicted to each other and it felt so good.

Then I found out about her. And my entire world turned upside-down.

This book follows some time after the events of the first book. Samantha and David were reveling in their new relationship, more eager to learn about each other now that their feelings had started to run deeper, added to the lust that had been a consistent roaring fire immediately the minute their eyes met that fateful night. But when Samantha learns something significant about David’s past that he didn’t mention, she feels betrayed. In Determined to Love things start to get a bit more interesting…

I’ll leave it at that. 😉

So this is where it all ends.

We were left with questions in our minds with the way book 2 was concluded. WHAT?! How? Why? Who? We get our answers in Determined to Win. I thought that this was a great ending to a first series from a new author. What started out as an okay-read turn into something more!

There were lots of twists in this installment that was missing from the first two books in the series, some that I didn’t even suspect! I guess the author has been holding back on us from the start, eh? 😉

To be honest this particular series isn’t my fancy since I’m so over the billionaire trope ages ago, but this author did a good job with holding my interest (as you can see, I can be a snob – lol) and I managed to get through the entire series in a short time.

I can tell as early as now that Ms Elizabeth Brown has more in store for us and I’d definitely keep a lookout for her future titles!
