A: When she’s a necromancer.

Angharad ‘Harry’ Russo has had to adjust to some major changes in her life. Her computer is haunted, she accidentally acquired a vampire servant and she’s attracted to the most aggravating alpha male on the planet. Her friend betrayed her, a lunatic tried to sacrifice her to raise a god and she accidentally ‘outed’ herself to the Magister, the most powerful vampire in town. What else could go wrong? Oh yeah, she’s just discovered that her father is a vampire and her dhamphiric powers are emerging prematurely. Poor Harry doesn’t know what weird ability could pop up next.

When werewolves start to go missing, and two young men die suspiciously, not to mention horrifically, Harry believes it’s all connected. It could be a hunch, or it could be the big, grey wolf that stepped out of her dreams to haunt her waking moments; either way, Harry knows that she needs to help solve the mystery. Now if she could just convince the sexy police detective, Cian Nash, to take her seriously.

I read the first Harry Russo book and loved it. So when the author, Lisa Emme, asked me if I wanted an ARC, I almost jumped through my computer screen to yell, “Yes! Give it to me now!” I think I was more polite in my response to her, though. 😉

In this book, Harry is learning how to control her powers and some parts are damn amusing. Seriously, I was giggling like a crazy women and my husband would just raise an eyebrow at me like I was crazy. And no, I won’t tell you which ones because that would ruin the enjoyment!

Poor Harry also had to keep with her agreement for dinner dates ones a week for nine weeks with the scary magistrate. Although she didn’t keep the truck he gave her. Score one for independent Harry. 😉

Nash, what can I say about Nash? He’s an alpha through and through, thinks he knows best although Harry doesn’t let that stop her, and goes out of his way to comfort Harry when she needs it. There were several sigh-worthy moments from Nash, and a few smack-him-upside the heads ones as well, exactly what I want from the hero. Don’t want him boring!

The story and the overall flow was great. Not once did I want to put the book down or get bored. Actually, I told my family that they couldn’t talk to my until I was done. Too bad they ignored me. The ending as left me begging for more. I can’t wait to read the next book. How long until it comes out?

November is a great month for me, because most of my favorite indies released new titles and that of course includes Ms Blair with Phoenix Broken, the latest installment of Phoenix, Inc. series.

This book was a total emotional roller coaster ride; heart-wrenching, at the same time exhilarating. There is no doubt, no doubt at all that Heather R. Blair is an amazing writer—her writing style, her electrifying plots, her unforgettable characters, and everything else that goes along with it.

We all know Scott Davidson from the previous books in the series, the doting husband of the alluring Jules Gentry’s best friend, Fannie. We have seen how much he loved Fannie and the twins. We also know of the tragic event that occurred in Phoenix Fallen that changed him like day to night. He has now one purpose: Revenge. So, when he got the chance to find the man who murdered his wife, he jumped at it… but things didn’t exactly go according to plan. He instead met a seductress that drew his interest. She is Desdemona Baptiste, and she was stirred the second she caught sight of this big, blond man. She sensed in him a darkness and as half-succubus/half-human, stole a clandestine moment with him, to relieve him of it, to comfort.

I thought I was in love with Miles and Jules, the heroes of the previous books in the series but nothing compared to what I felt for Scott reading this book. It turns out that he is more than we first assumed, and frankly I wasn’t surprised. Indeed, I’m delighted with this revelation. I’m not telling more, so you’ll have to read the series to find out what I mean. 😉

I definitely loved Des too. She considers herself neither demon nor human. She is her own being. She is strong, willful and confident, but at the same time she can also be vulnerable. I really enjoyed getting to know her.

All in all, it was a great book, full of twists and turns that are definitely thrilling. And for the last 15% of the book, I was breathless by the time I reached the end. What a ride this book was!

Oh, and I also forgot to mention the sex scenes? Gosh, they were hot hot hot and yummy! 😉

The best thing about this book is… this is just the beginning. I can’t wait to read what’s going to happen next!

5 stars. No surprise there. I’ve been a fan of this author since the first time I read a book of hers and I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned that before either in my previous reviews or when we featured Sawyer Belle here on KH Book Reviews. The second this book was announced as released, I ran to Amazon and got a copy of it. I knew story of Marlena and Dalton will not be short of epic, but I still wasn’t ready of how this story would turn out.

Once again this author weaved another poignant story of love and passion between two souls, diversed as well with a bit of humor and even suspense.

Marlena and Dalton are two wonderful characters. If you’ve been following the series (which I highly recommend you do if you don’t), you would not have expected them to pair up and surprisingly, by the time I read this book, I couldn’t imagine them being with anyone else. Reading about them while they were in the sidelines in the previous books is what makes them even more endearing, and then when you finally get to this book, they will surely tug on your heartstrings.

Knowing that this book could very well be the last book of the series, I took my time reading it. I savored it. I didn’t want to let go of these characters. I didn’t want to leave behind the town where they captured my heart.

Ruby’s Song is the reason why Historical Romance is my go-to romance genre. Everything I want/need in a Historical Romance novel is here, in this series—in fact, in every book Historical Romance novel this author ever wrote.

I don’t think it’s necessary for me to go into detail about this story. Just read it and you’ll see why I’ve done nothing but gush about this book and this author.

I’ll preface this by saying this was not my kind of book. It’s well written and I can see why others would love it, but I was expecting more from a PNR. It’s very sweet, although tooth decay inducing. They met, they fell in love, he stripped her while she was unconscious, but it was okay because she thought it was sweet. All this happened before 20% into the book.

I kept waiting for something to happen. Even when the “evil” ex-girlfriend showed up, I expected fireworks, anger, anything. Instead it was very anti-climatic for me. I guess my tastes run to the more external conflict than what this book gave me.

Those who enjoy the more sweeter stories will love this one. It’s more of an emotional read that feels like a New Adult book that just happened to have paranormal creatures in it.

This post-apocalyptic romance is the first novella I’ve read of Ms. Arcangelo’s, and I was very impressed.

Our heroine, Monarch, has survived for months out on her own after a pandemic sweeps the earth, causing mass casualties and global chaos. When we meet her she’s eking out a living in an abandoned mobile home, stocking up on supplies and trying to get to a refugee camp where there may be family members to reunite with. That in itself is super admirable. I’d be lying if I said Breakout didn’t make me reflect on how poorly I’d fare in the event of an apocalypse…

The manner in which our main characters meet adds mystery to Corbin’s character and serves as the beginning of a continuing theme to their relationship: trust. I was as curious about his past as Monarch was, and I enjoyed their progression from wary strangers to passionate lovers.

The beginning and the last 20% of the book were my favorite parts; not that the middle wasn’t solid, I just prefer more life-threatening danger kind of plot points as opposed to couples drama. But, that’s clearly just a personal preference. (I’m fully aware I have a tendency to be hard on main characters in this regard.) Speaking more neutrally there really is a good balance between internal and external conflict in this story.

This is an engrossing and sexy read, and you absolutely want Monarch and Corbin to beat the odds despite their situation seeming so bleak on the surface. It also makes you stop to think about what’s really important in life–something I know I don’t pause to do as much as I should.

This wasn’t my first Joely Sue Burkhart read so I’m familiar with her way of storytelling but I have to be honest, I was completely blown away by this book! I firstly The Horse Master of Shanhasson (Click here to read my pretty basic review), so I had some expectations.

The author did not merely meet them, but she had indeed exceeded them!

I’m usually a speed reader, but this book I knew I had to read slowly as to savor this reading experience. Literally at the first page, I was completely hooked. Also, I’m more than surprised that this book has not garnered the attention that it actually deserves!

The author had weaved a unique vast dominion where the kingdoms are currently in chaos. Shannari, the last daughter of the Blessed Lady and is the rightful Queen of the Green Lands, but her magic is crippled and she finds herself helpless against the other scheming individuals vying for a place on the throne. She then feels that the Blessed Lady had forsaken her when Rhaekar, the Khul of the Sha’Kae al’Dan, and his Nine Blood steal her away back to their camp

Her writing style, completely poetic, left me mesmerized as the events unfolded. She created characters with depth, characters impeccably developed. The worldbuilding… just wow.

Shannari’s journey doesn’t end at the last page. I look forward to reading the rest of the series and anticipate what will happen on the journey back to Shanhasson.

A few days later, I’m still overwhelmed at what I had experienced this book. I highly recommend this to Epic/Dark Fantasy lovers and Romance lovers alike. This book is not for the squeamish, however. 🙂

I started this book last night and figured I’d read a chapter or two then watch an episode of Supernatural…. I did not watch Supernatural. And those of you who know me, know that I adore Jensen Ackles. So for me to give up staring at my favourite actor to read a book means something.

Harry, the female lead, amused me, although a few times I wanted to smack her upside the head for ignoring some obvious things. I loved that she was loyal and did the right thing even when it landed her into trouble. She didn’t cower away from it. Plus, she wasn’t a bitch! Some people feel that making a woman strong means she has to be a bitch. Ugh.

And Nash… well hello. Now there’s someone I want to wake up next to. While he was overbearing, he was still surprisingly sweet. And Harry, well, she didn’t put up with his shit.

The world building was decent. It slowly unwrapped without overwhelming or giving major info dumps. I want to learn more about Isaac, the vampire, as well as the Magistrate. Now there was one scary dude.

Overall, I enjoyed the story, I loved the characters, and I can’t wait to read more.

This, I think, is my 4th or 5th Femdom read. While I have no aversion to it whatsoever, it’s just not my kink or it’s just not a theme that I would be eager to read. In fact, I didn’t read the blurb when I started reading it which I was very glad to do, because if I knew the premise of the story beforehand, that might not have ended up loving this book!

Beauty and the Beast get kinky… and Beauty wields the whip. 😉 Harvey lost his parents in an accident where he also almost died. The spoiled rich playboy turned into a recluse as a result, shutting himself away with scars inside and out. Nothing will console Harvey, especially not Maxwell’s niece who cleans the house in skimpy maid outfits. Mistress Kelsey will do anything to crack his defenses and help him heal… through pain.

This isn’t my first Joely Sue Burkhart read. Having read this, I noticed now that she doesn’t just create stories for the sake of kink, instead her stories will throw you headfirst into a series of emotions with bonus kinky scenes that were tastefully written.

The characters are more than just well-developed, dealing with their lives pragmatically just like you and I would have done. They were also consistent throughout the book.

I definitely love her writing style. I could call it smooth, easygoing. Her way of writing hooks you into the world she’d created.

This book is also an excellent gateway to Femdom books. I wasn’t scandalized at all and even enjoyed the scenes!

Overall, great great great book! Looking forward to reading more of this author’s work. Highly recommended! 🙂

I’ll be upfront about what I think about this Christmas Romance novelette…

IT’S SO CUTE!

I really enjoyed this author’s writing first and foremost, if a little peculiar, as it is told in 3rd Person POV omniscient which I’m not really used to.

The characters are quite endearing, especially Alex – the winsome yet badass heroine who has no qualms about running after the bad guys. 😉 Ryan, on the other hand, while he is infuriating, he is what made the story interesting too. I also love how Alex can be this tough chick who has no problems going after what she wants (in this case Ryan) but also vulnerable to her emotions at the same time.

I wonder if Nathan will get his own story? I hope so, Ms McKade! *cough cough* 😀
